Guest House
Energy
All landings are lit with automatic energy saving light bulbs.
New energy efficient condensing boilers were installed in 2006.
All radiators are thermostatically controlled.
The heating is zoned so that it can be shut down in parts of the guest house when the heating is not required.
Double glazed windows have been installed in ;
-
rooms 8, 3, 6 and the dining room in 2005,
-
rooms 1, 4 and 7 in 2007,
-
bathrooms for rooms 2 and 5 in 2009.
-
rooms 2 and 5 in 2013
Room 2's bathroom walls were stripped back to the stone and insulating plasterboard installed.
Most of the hot water and heating pipes beneath floorboards and in trunking were insulated in 2008/2009.
Our personal toilets use rainwater to flush.
Many of the floors between rooms have been insulated so the rooms are warmer and quieter.
Waste
We recycle everything that the council will recycle through kerbside collection, currently this includes cans, plastic and glass bottles, cardboard and paper.
Transport
The day to day running of the guest house does not require use of a vehicle.
Our fresh food is collected on foot from the Co-Op. The Co-Op has won the 2007 Business Commitment to the environment award.
